Office of Legal Affairs
The Office of Legal Affairs manages legal matters for the University by providing legal advice that promotes sound decision-making in all areas of operation, research and administration. Our office handles all legal matters of the University and its various entities including the School of Professional and Career Education and the Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law.
The Office of Legal Affairs function is to provide, manage and coordinate quality legal services including legal counsel and representation, litigation and legal risk management, contract drafting and review, and advising on compliance for all parts of the University. As part of these services, General Counsel provides legal advice to University officers, administrators, and staff acting in their capacity as employees. Some examples of the types of legal services provided by the Office of Legal Affairs to the university include:
- litigation management;
- reviewing, drafting, and enforcing legal documents such as contracts and affiliation agreements;
- working with departments during investigations and compliance reviews;
- advising and assisting with property matters, labor relations, personnel and EEO matters, tax and business issues, patent and trademark, copyright issues; and
- insurance and risk management
It is the goal of the Office of Legal Affairs to provide counsel to minimize legal risk and costs, reduce litigation exposure, and ensure legal compliance, and to do so efficiently, expeditiously, reliably and professionally.
